ExxonMobil Global Projects has selected Sercel’s Marlin software to help coordinate installation work for Guyana’s US$12.7-billion Whiptail development.
Sercel received a one-year contract covering deployment of the platform, system configuration, staff onboarding, operational reviews and continuous technical support. The technology will provide project teams with a live geospatial view of vessels and other offshore assets during simultaneous pipelay and mooring operations.
The contract is commercially important because Whiptail is entering a more complex phase involving multiple vessels, contractors and subsea activities. Software that helps prevent scheduling conflicts and improve operational visibility can reduce safety risks and costly offshore delays.
Whiptail is ExxonMobil’s sixth approved Stabroek Block development. The project will comprise as many as 10 drilling centres and 48 production and injection wells connected to the Jaguar floating production, storage and offloading vessel. The FPSO is designed to produce approximately 250,000 barrels per day.
Production is targeted to begin before the end of 2027, potentially lifting Guyana’s overall capacity above 1.3 million barrels per day. The development represents further demand for marine logistics, subsea engineering, offshore installation services, technical workers and Guyanese suppliers capable of meeting the project’s procurement and safety standards.
