Guyana, Panama Explore Deeper Trade and Investment Cooperation at World FZO Congress

Guyana and Panama are exploring expanded opportunities for trade, investment, logistics, and regional economic cooperation following high-level engagements held during the 12th World Free Zones Organization (World FZO) World Congress in Panama.

Guyana’s Chief Investment Officer and Agency Head of the Guyana Office for Investment (GO-Invest), Peter Ramsaroop, met with senior Panamanian government officials and investment authorities as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral economic collaboration and position Guyana as a strategic regional investment hub.

Among the officials engaged were H.E. Luisa Napolitano, Administrator of the Colón Free Zone; Josimar Ortiz, International Marketing Director; Rodrigo Jaén, Director of the Free Zones Regime; Liz Corbett, Director of Support to Investors at Panamá Pacífico; Julio Calvo, Investment Specialist at ProPanama; and representatives from Panama’s International Economic Relations Department within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Discussions centered on opportunities for cooperation in free zone development, investment facilitation, logistics integration, regional connectivity, and private sector partnerships. The engagements also examined ways Guyana and Panama can collaborate to enhance trade flows and support business expansion across Latin America and the Caribbean.

The meetings formed part of Guyana’s broader strategy to deepen international partnerships and strengthen its role in regional commerce under President Mohamed Irfaan Ali’s Vision 2030 development agenda.

Officials highlighted Guyana’s increasing importance as an emerging gateway linking South America, the Caribbean, and global markets, supported by rapid economic growth, expanding infrastructure, and rising investor interest across multiple sectors.

Participation in the World FZO Congress also provided opportunities for Guyana to engage with global leaders in free zone development and investment promotion as the country continues efforts to diversify its economy and attract strategic international partnerships.

The World FZO Congress brings together policymakers, investors, trade officials, and business leaders from around the world to discuss innovation, trade competitiveness, logistics, and the evolving role of free zones in global economic development.
