Guyana’s 24-acre truck parking facility at Hermitage, Wales, is about 75 per cent complete and is expected to become operational before the end of 2026, according to the Department of Public Information.
The development is intended to give truck and commercial-vehicle operators on the West Bank of Demerara a designated location for parking, servicing and routine maintenance. That could move heavy-vehicle activity away from residential streets while adding organised logistics infrastructure to the Wales commercial area.
Six contractors across six lots
Housing Minister Collin Croal said six contractors are working across six lots. Four lots are expected to be completed within a month, with the remaining two due before year-end. Works have reached the crusher-run stage, and lighting is planned to support use outside normal working hours.
An official National Procurement and Tender Administration record independently confirms that the Central Housing and Planning Authority tendered construction of the Hermitage-Wales truck parking facility in six lots in March 2026. Earlier government reporting placed the truck park within wider commercial-zone infrastructure works at Wales.
What it means for operators
For operators, the material development is the facility’s reported progress toward service availability. The government says a management committee will oversee security, maintenance and daily operations, while fees and operating arrangements are still to be announced. Those details will determine access costs and the commercial terms for users.
The opening target remains a government timetable rather than a completed milestone. Investors and logistics businesses should watch for completion of the final two lots, installation of lighting, publication of the fee structure, confirmation of the operating entity and evidence that the site is accepting vehicles.
