Citizens from Guyana and Barbados can now travel between the two countries using only their e-ID cards, reducing administrative barriers and creating a more seamless environment for business executives, entrepreneurs, investors, and professionals operating across both markets.
The launch of Electronic Identification (e-ID) Card travel between Guyana and Barbados represents more than a new travel convenience. It is a strategic milestone in Caribbean economic integration.
The initiative reflects the shared vision of Guyana’s President, Irfaan Ali, and Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Motley.
It aims to strengthen regional connectivity, modernize public services, and position the Caribbean as a more competitive destination for trade and investment.
Barbados’ Minister of Innovation, Industry, Science and Technology, Jonathon Reid , described the achievement as a major step forward, noting that the initiative was implemented in under six weeks.
Beyond facilitating travel, he emphasized the e-ID platform’s potential to accelerate secure digital government services, enhance cross-border commerce, and support innovation-driven economic development.
As Guyana continues its rapid economic expansion and Barbados strengthens its position as a regional financial and business hub, this initiative creates new opportunities for investment, tourism, professional services, and deeper private-sector collaboration. It also signals a broader commitment to leveraging digital transformation to improve the ease of doing business across the Caribbean.
