The Guyana Office for Investment says the approved Investment Agreement portfolio for Region 10 exceeded G$8 billion between 2020 and 2026.

GO-Invest said the portfolio covers hundreds of jobs across several sectors and that local investors account for most of the investment agreements.

The sectors identified include dairy production, soy and corn cultivation, red beans and other agricultural activity, agro-processing, bauxite-related operations, tourism and hospitality, business-process outsourcing and other services.

The G$8 billion figure represents the value associated with approved Investment Agreements. It should not be interpreted as confirmation that the full amount has already been spent or that every approved project is operational.

Supply-chain opportunities under review

GO-Invest plans to work with major companies operating in Region 10 to identify goods and services currently being sourced from Georgetown, other regions or overseas.

The agency identified possible areas for local supply-chain development, including:

  • Industrial maintenance and fabrication
  • Equipment rental and servicing
  • Logistics and warehousing
  • Construction inputs
  • Value-added wood manufacturing
  • Food processing and cold-chain services
  • Specialised BPO and digital services
  • Tourism and hospitality

These are sectors identified by GO-Invest for further assessment. They are not confirmed contracts, tenders or guaranteed business opportunities.

The agency also said it would support businesses with product development, packaging, standards and certification, market identification, e-commerce and connections with overseas buyers.

GO-Invest cited Linden-based Taz Foods as an example of value-added food processing. It also reported that Prochant employs 59 people in Linden and has another 15 trainees in specialised business-process services.

Infrastructure and implementation

GO-Invest linked Region 10’s investment prospects to improvements along the Linden–Mabura corridor, the new Wismar–Mackenzie Bridge and upgrades to the Soesdyke–Linden Highway.

Those projects could improve the region’s connection with the coast, Guyana’s interior and the developing trade corridor with northern Brazil. The commercial effect will depend on project completion, operating conditions and the businesses that ultimately establish or expand operations in the region.

GO-Invest did not publish a project-by-project breakdown of the G$8 billion portfolio, the amount already disbursed, the implementation status of individual projects or an exact total for the jobs associated with the agreements. Those details should be verified before the portfolio is used for investment or market analysis.
