Guyana’s Senior Finance Minister, Dr. Ashni Singh, has announced that eligible Guyanese without a bank account can now register on the online cash grant portal to receive the Government’s $100,000 cash grant by cheque.
Previously, online registration was only available to persons with bank accounts.
The Minister explained that once applicants register on the portal, they can choose to receive their cash grant either through a bank account or by cheque. Those opting for a cheque will be able to track its status through the portal and will also be contacted by officials from the Ministry of Finance.
Once ready, cheques will be distributed to designated locations across the country, where recipients can collect them from their assigned pickup site.
While announcing the new option, Dr. Singh encouraged citizens to open bank accounts, noting that officials will be available at cheque distribution sites to assist anyone interested in doing so.
To date, 470,420 persons have benefited from the cash grant initiative, with approximately $47 billion injected into the economy through the programme.
