ExxonMobil Begins Three-Month Inspection of Guyana’s Gas-to-Energy Subsea Pipeline

ExxonMobil Guyana has commenced a three-month inspection of the subsea pipeline that forms a critical part of Guyana’s Gas-to-Energy project. According to a notice issued by the Maritime Administration Department (MARAD), the inspection began on May 27 and is expected to continue until August 15 across an 18.2 square kilometre area offshore of the West Coast of Demerara.

The exercise involves five vessels operating along the pipeline route and forms part of ongoing monitoring activities associated with the infrastructure. Mariners have been advised to exercise caution and maintain a safe distance from the vessels operating within the inspection zone.

The approximately 220-kilometre pipeline was completed in December 2024 and stretches from offshore production facilities to Crane on the West Bank of Demerara before continuing to Wales, where a natural gas liquids facility and a 300-megawatt power plant remain under development. The project is expected to play a significant role in Guyana’s energy future by supporting more reliable electricity generation and reducing energy costs over the long term.

The inspection comes as ExxonMobil continues to expand its activities offshore Guyana. On June 15, 2026, the company applied for environmental authorization to undertake a 35-well exploration campaign within the Stabroek Block. According to information published by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the proposed campaign is expected to run from 2028 to 2033 and would further support exploration efforts in one of the world’s most closely watched offshore oil provinces.
