Tourism Growth Signals Expanding Business Opportunities in Guyana

Guyana’s tourism sector continues to show strong economic potential, with the country recording a notable increase in visitor arrivals for March 2026, according to Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Susan Rodrigues.

Figures released by the ministry revealed that Guyana welcomed 39,484 visitors in March 2026, reflecting a 13.3 percent increase compared to the corresponding period in March 2025. The continued rise in arrivals further positions Guyana as one of the fastest-growing tourism markets in the Caribbean and South America.

The increase is being driven by heightened international interest in Guyana, expanding investment opportunities, and the rapid growth of sectors linked to tourism and hospitality. Increased business travel, eco-tourism development, and ongoing infrastructure expansion are also contributing to the upward trend.

“This to us means that our strategy is working, that our tourism and hospitality industry is thriving but more importantly that destination Guyana is a resilient destination,” the minister stated.

She further noted that growth is not limited to international arrivals, with local travel activity also contributing to increased business for operators across the country.

“Our interior lodges are giving us positive responses that they are seeing an increase in international visitors but also from domestic visitors,” Rodrigues explained.

The sustained growth in arrivals is expected to create wider economic benefits for businesses operating within the tourism value chain, including hotels, tour operators, transportation providers, restaurants, and small enterprises.

Government has continued investing in infrastructure, destination marketing, and partnerships with regional and international stakeholders as part of efforts to position tourism as a major contributor to Guyana’s non-oil economy.
