Iman Khan-Cummings elected AMCHAM Guyana’s first female president

The American Chamber of Commerce of Guyana (AMCHAM Guyana) has elected business executive Iman Khan-Cummings as its first female president, marking a historic milestone for the organisation and its role in strengthening commercial ties between Guyana and the United States.

Khan-Cummings was elected on December 5 during AMCHAM Guyana’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), where members also reflected on the Chamber’s achievements over the past year and set priorities for the 2025–2027 term.

In her acceptance remarks, Khan-Cummings reaffirmed her commitment to deepening bilateral economic cooperation and positioning AMCHAM as a key driver of trade and investment between the two countries.

She pledged to “continue deepening the commercial relationship between Guyana and the U.S.,” while underscoring her focus on “building bridges, expanding opportunity, and promoting shared prosperity for businesses across both countries.”

Executive Director of AMCHAM Guyana, Richard Leo, presented an overview of the Chamber’s recent work, highlighting its role in creating new avenues for private sector collaboration. Among the key achievements was AMCHAM’s first outbound trade mission to the Caribbean Business Conference, which opened fresh commercial opportunities for both Guyanese and American firms.

Leo also pointed to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the U.S. Foreign Commercial Service on June 30. The agreement is aimed at enhancing cooperation in areas such as business matchmaking, market intelligence, and trade support, further positioning AMCHAM as a bridge between companies operating in both markets.

Outgoing President Devindra Kissoon was recognised for his “exemplary leadership,” under which the Chamber strengthened its financial position and grew its membership base. AMCHAM also acknowledged Tandi Rampersaud for her dedicated contributions to deepening U.S.–Guyanese economic engagement.

U.S. Ambassador to Guyana, Nicole Theriot, expressed appreciation for Kissoon’s stewardship and reaffirmed the U.S. Embassy’s support for AMCHAM’s new leadership. She signalled confidence in continued commercial growth and stronger bilateral relations under Khan-Cummings’ presidency.

The AGM also saw the election of the Board of Directors for the 2025–2027 term, representing a wide cross-section of American and Guyanese businesses operating in sectors such as energy, hospitality, manufacturing, logistics, construction and professional services.
