Guyana registers 36,251 new businesses in 2025

Guyana’s business registry recorded a surge in new enterprises in 2025, numbers that the country’s Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Anil Nandlall, SC, says reflect strong confidence in the economy by both locals and investors.

Speaking on the latest performance of the Deeds and Commercial Registries Authority, Nandlall said 36,251 new business names were registered last year.

“In the year 2025, 36,251 new businesses were registered… that is phenomenal by any standard,” he said, as he broke the figure into operating-day averages that show a steady flow of new activity at the registry.

Based on his calculations, Nandlall said the 2025 pace worked out to over 3,021 new businesses per month, 755 per week, and 151 per day on a five-day work week.

“Nineteen businesses are registered every hour in an eight-hour day,” he added.

Beyond business-name registrations, Nandlall said incorporation activity also climbed, with 1,516 limited liability companies registered in 2025.

That, he said, equates to about 126 companies per month, 31 per week, and roughly six companies per day. “There’s almost a company every hour,” he noted.

For Nandlall, these are not just headline numbers; they are an economic signal.

“These statistics demonstrate the confidence that people have in the economy of our country… Guyanese have, and local and foreign investors have, in the economy of this country,” he said.
