A 200-metre asphalt trial is underway on Lot 2 of the Palmyra–Moleson Creek highway project, marking a new construction stage on the section between Bloomfield and Number 54 Village.
The Department of Public Information reported the start of the trial on August 26 following a site visit by President Irfaan Ali. The limited trial should not be described as full paving of the entire Lot 2 corridor.
Full-scale paving projected for September
According to the government update, full-scale paving is expected to begin on September 15. President Ali said crews are projected to pave approximately 100 metres per day once that phase starts.
Those figures are government projections rather than confirmed completion results. The August 26 update did not announce a completion date for the full Lot 2 works.
Current work along the corridor
DPI reported that crusher-run material is being applied along the remaining corridor while other layers of road material are prepared. China Road and Bridge Corporation is executing Lot 2, which extends from Bloomfield to Number 54 Village in Region Six.
The road forms part of the wider Palmyra–Moleson Creek highway project. Government descriptions say the completed corridor is intended to provide four lanes, wider carriageways, improved road geometry, safer parking areas, lighting and upgraded safety features.
Why the project matters
The corridor is a major transport route for residents, farms and businesses across East Berbice-Corentyne and links communities toward the Suriname border. The project is intended to reduce travel constraints and improve movement of people and goods, although its eventual operating performance will depend on completion, maintenance and traffic management.

Businesses relying on the corridor should monitor the transition from the trial section to full-scale paving, traffic-management notices, access arrangements for roadside properties and any updated completion timetable.
