Denmark’s experience in modern, technology-driven agriculture could play a meaningful role in Guyana’s efforts to modernize its food systems and expand Agri-based investment, according to Chief Investment Officer and Agency Head of the Guyana Office for Investment, Peter Ramsaroop.
The comments were made during discussions between the Non-Resident Ambassador of Denmark to Guyana, Eva Bisgaard Pedersen, following the presentation of credentials to President Dr. Irfaan Ali earlier this week.
During the engagement, Ramsaroop highlighted Denmark’s position as a global leader in agricultural production and exports, noting that nearly 60 per cent of the country’s land area is dedicated to agriculture.
Through the use of advanced technology, innovation, and strong policy coordination, Denmark has developed a highly productive sector, particularly in pork and dairy exports.
He noted that Denmark’s agricultural model offers practical insights for Guyana as it seeks to increase domestic production, strengthen food security, and position itself as a regional supplier of agricultural products.
“Denmark demonstrates how efficiency, innovation, and value-added production can maximise land use,” Ramsaroop said, adding that these lessons are relevant to Guyana’s own development objectives.
Discussions focused on potential areas of collaboration, including modern farming techniques, agro-processing, cold-chain logistics, and the integration of technology across the agricultural value chain.
Port management and logistics infrastructure were also identified as critical components in improving the competitiveness of agricultural exports to regional and international markets.
These priorities closely align with the government’s broader development strategy, which links agricultural expansion with infrastructure development and trade facilitation as key drivers of economic diversification.
The engagement forms part of Guyana’s wider investment outreach programme, which seeks to identify international partners with proven expertise to support sustainable growth and long-term diversification.
